What is value stacking? BrightEra Energy will tell you

Spread the love

Every battery energy storage system (BESS)  is able to maximize the results from the energy taken from the grid and that way it can provide multiple services to users. This specific optimization of the batteries will allow the user to obtain a higher battery utilization, which is a multi-use approach to the battery energy storage system. The latter is better known as value stacking.

How does it work

A value stacking project applied into a BESS will help to defer the necessity of new transmission by meeting a portion of the highest demand with the energy that it’s already stored within the battery. But what happens at low demand moments? Easy! When not meeting high demand, the BESS will earn some profit by providing operating reserve services for the transmission system worker.

Keep in mind

Some services may be exclusive to the specific BESS design that your system has. Even if it is a super professional viding multi-services, the additional charging of the battery (extra energy saved) could degrade the system and shorten its lifetime and economic viability.

To sum up, a designed system like the BESS can only provide a certain amount of services for a limited period of time before it runs out of energy, which means that each system has to prioritize the services they want to provide in order to cover all of them.
