The Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) and the city of Orlando just established a plan that aims to encourage all organizations to become 100% solar at their facilities by 2030. Their initial requirement for participating businesses to hit that goal by 2030 is to start with 10% of solar energy and so companies will be able to increase that amount gradually over the next 9 years.
As of now, many companies have joined the OUC solar program, being beneficiaries of economic advantages such as the maintenance of the solar system. According to Clint Bullock, OUC CEO, companies are able to access maintenance for free without assuming the logistics and costs related to the solar system. The latter is a great benefit to all companies, which will also attract more businesses to join the program in order to generate a good impact on the planet and their budget as well.
It takes a community
An important step towards Orlando’s clean energy goal is transitioning the energy source we use currently in our buildings into renewable energy sources like solar. This goal is achieved through the OUC’s Community Solar program, which means that more clean energy is going to feed the power in our city. The term “community” means that we all can do part of this project in order to speed up the transition to a cleaner and healthier environment in the city.
Benefits of participating
- Decreasing costs of solar energy as the program grows
- Be recognized as a leader of the renewable energy project
- Contribute to achieving the social responsibility goals (United Nations)
- Increase worker productivity and satisfaction through this great input to the environment
