El D\u00eda Mundial del Medio Ambiente es el d\u00eda de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) dedicado a la concienciaci\u00f3n medioambiental y a la protecci\u00f3n de nuestro planeta. Este d\u00eda es una oportunidad para cambiar nuestros h\u00e1bitos y tomar medidas para ayudar a la Madre Tierra. Seg\u00fan un informe de la ONU,<\/a>hay cerca de un mill\u00f3n de especies vegetales y animales en peligro de extinci\u00f3n. En honor al D\u00eda Mundial del Medio Ambiente, la Conferencia anual sobre el Medio Ambiente abordar\u00e1 este y otros temas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

El D\u00eda Mundial del Medio Ambiente se celebra cada 5 de junio. Este a\u00f1o, el D\u00eda Mundial del Medio Ambiente es el s\u00e1bado 5 de junio de 2021. Cada a\u00f1o se asigna un tema medioambiental a la festividad y se celebra una conferencia para abordar los problemas actuales de sostenibilidad. El tema de este a\u00f1o es la restauraci\u00f3n de los ecosistemas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conferencia Mundial del Medio Ambiente 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each year on June 5th, a different country hosts World Environment Day to promote worldwide environmental awareness. This year Pakistan will host for the first time, in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). As part of the \u201cecosystem restoration\u201d theme for 2021, the conference will formally launch the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, an initiative to prevent, halt, and reverse the degradation of ecosystems across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 es la restauraci\u00f3n de ecosistemas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La restauraci\u00f3n de ecosistemas consiste en ayudar a la recuperaci\u00f3n de ecosistemas degradados o destruidos y devolverles la vida mediante la plantaci\u00f3n de \u00e1rboles, la limpieza de zonas naturales contaminadas o la concesi\u00f3n de espacios naturales para que se recuperen por s\u00ed mismos. El objetivo es revertir la degradaci\u00f3n de sistemas como lagos, oc\u00e9anos, humedales y bosques. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los ecosistemas sustentan y conforman la vida en nuestro planeta. La degradaci\u00f3n de los ecosistemas contribuye a la pobreza, al cambio clim\u00e1tico y a la extinci\u00f3n masiva de especies. Restaurar ecosistemas valiosos tendr\u00eda beneficios financieros, sociales y medioambientales. Ayudar\u00eda a nuestro planeta a sanar y a reducir el cambio clim\u00e1tico.\u00a0 Pero la restauraci\u00f3n s\u00f3lo es posible con un apoyo p\u00fablico significativo y con una acci\u00f3n gubernamental que financie y promueva las iniciativas de restauraci\u00f3n. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 puedes hacer para ayudar a restaurar los ecosistemas naturales?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are many current organizations trying to address degraded ecosystems. To support the restoration efforts you can volunteer or donate to ecological projects. Two great examples of successful projects are the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Delaware, one of the largest active wetland restoration projects in the world, and Pakistan\u2019s Billion Tree Tsunami, which has now planted over a billion trees. For the next steps, that project has now encouraged the government to plant 10 additional billion trees over five years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forest restoration projects directly help fight climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and providing resources and jobs to nearby communities. When making charitable donations, consider donating to ecosystem restoration projects such as the ones mentioned above. You can also volunteer for local projects and help restore local species. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
